TLDEF Commemorates World AIDS Day

                      TLDEF Commemorates World AIDS Day

Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund joins advocates across the world in observing World AIDS Day, a time to mourn those lost to AIDS-related illness and celebrate the courage and resilience of each person living with HIV, including transgender people who are HIV positive.

Statement from TLDEF Executive Director Jillian Weiss

“On World AIDS Day let us all reflect on the spirit and legacy of more than 35 million people lost to AIDS while working together to uplift the 36.7 million people bravely living with HIV globally. Transgender women of color in particular are at severely high risk of HIV infection because of economic disparities, discrimination and stigma.

“TLDEF stands with all who are impacted by HIV, including every transgender individual living with HIV. We join our fellow trans advocates in sounding an alarm about the need for prevention and testing to curb the startling rates of HIV we face. We must also work together to end the stigma around HIV once and for all.”
