What can I use a passport for besides international travel?
Passports (including both Passport Books and Passport Cards) can be used as proof of U.S. citizenship and identity. In most situations where a birth certificate is required, a passport can be used instead of a birth certificate. Passports can be used in many situations such as the following:
Work authorization (Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification)
Obtaining a driver’s license or state ID
School registration (in many districts – check with your local school system)
Proof of age (for example, at a club or restaurant)
Passports can generally be used in place of state ID or driver’s licenses in any situation that requires proof of identity, age, or citizenship.
